Have you ever gone to a place and found out it’s just a little too late? The place closed five minutes ago? Have you ever reached out to a friend in need to find out that the situation is resolved and you are no longer needed? Have you ever meant to do something and waited just a little too long? Today’s Daily Quote is from one of my very favorite people. Ralph Waldo Emerson was born on May 25, 1803. He said the following:
You cannot do a kindness too soon, for you never know how soon it will be too late.
This past week, I got this message loud and clear. I have a very good friend who lives in a place that is quite hard to access. I can’t just drive to his house. I have to drive to his creek, stop, call him, hope he answers, and wait for him to come out and get me in his truck and take me the rest of the way. Sometimes I just do not feel like going through all of that. I had a feeling I should at least call and I made a mental note to give my friend a call. I forgot as the days went by last week. I kept thinking of him. Well, to make a long story short, it’s just a little too late now. I got a call that my friend was found dead from an apparent heart attack. Needless to say, I’m forgiving myself for not calling when I felt I should have called.
For today, let’s work on reaching out to those people we haven’t talked to in a while. Let’s reach out to say hello to those friends and family members we have with whom we are not in daily contact. Remember, like in my case, if you wait too long, it may be just a little too late. Reach out. Call. Text. Email. Do something. As Ralph Waldo Emerson reminds us, we cannot do a kindness too soon! We cannot contact those people too soon. Make it happen today!
