Join us in a gigantic sigh of relief at the news that Ridley Scott’s new Blade Runner movie will not be a dumbass remake but a sequel penned by the film’s original screenwriter Hampton Fancher. So far so good as trying to followup one of the best films of all time can possibly be. Harrison Ford isn’t in it. But then he wouldn’t be, would he *winks slowly at camera*
The news is still sketchy. All we have is a press release saying what we just said, only in a more boring way. One interesting tidbit of which we all probably need reminding of is this tidbit here…

“Scott and his Blade Runner collaborator Fancher originally conceived of their 1982 classic as the first in a series of films incorporating the themes and characters featured in Philip K. Dick‘s groundbreaking novel Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? from which Blade Runner was adapted. Circumstances, however, took Scott into other directions and the project never advanced.”

Tidbit.

So rather than shitting on the memory of the years you wasted spent pondering just who was or wasn’t a replicant, they are merely carrying on as they’d always meant to. Of course, it might all still be a terrible, ill-advised mess with far too many gun battles (like that time you tried to get back with your ex). But we’ll remain cautiously optimistic.

All they’re telling us about the story is that it “will take place some years after the first film concluded.” And feature a new character who resembles a seven-foot tall, accident-prone rabbit with a Jamaican accent.*

Any excuse to look at Sean Young's on set Polaroids again. Drool.

*Not really.
“What do you mean, I'm not helping?”
